During my quiet times lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about looking and moving forward, I’m sure we all have. The pandemic, whilst its practically out the back door, we 1 year later look longingly and expectantly forward to the “when” in our lives. It has seemed that everything I’ve read, whether its scripture or the wise writings of a scholar or teacher have pointed me towards tomorrow. However (I find that the ‘however’ often contains a crucial bit of info!) what we do today will be the key factor in our tomorrow. The law of sowing and reaping is everywhere and in everything, we only have to look for it.
If I teach my children ‘how to’ today they will be ‘able to’ tomorrow. If I am disciplined today, my jeans will fit better tomorrow! This looking forward, this sowing today and reaping tomorrow impacts every single area of our lives from our thinking to our doing.
If I dwell on unhappy thoughts today, I am more likely to be depressed tomorrow. If I teach my children good eating habits and manners today, they will be healthier and better equipped for life tomorrow…the list is endless.
This is not a new thought for any of us, we’ve known this for most of our adult lives but strangely, it’s a directive we often ignore not so much in what we do for others or our children, but personally. As I’ve thought about and been challenged in how I manage today, as my choices for today are limited by circumstance the importance of the choices I make has taken on more weight and significance because we are hurtling towards tomorrow at breakneck speed! Yesterday, in the midst of the pandemic even aspects of today seemed like they had been suspended in time, one day being pretty much like another yet, time has passed, and tomorrow is quickly coming.
I’m actually empowered because I realise more daily that I have a significant amount of influence over the sort of tomorrow I’m going to live in and that’s a great thing. No, we’re not in control but we’re not victims either. We have choice. We have a say!
